Teri Ann has been working with animals since she was a
teenager. She realized growing up, animals gave unconditional love, which she gave back. She wanted to become
a vet, but decided against it when she watched her vet do knee surgery on her horse & she wasn't too keen on the cutting
of the bones & everything else that went with it. So, she became the next best thing---Pet Sitter. Teri Ann
started her part-time business in Montgomery, TX in 1999 and brought it to California, where she grew up, in 2001. In
2006, she moved back to AZ, where she was born, and has been running Comfy Pets in Laveen ever since.

Her mother, Donna, runs the Fountain Hills & East
Scottsdale side of the business for her, and her sister Tami helps out as her backup pet sitter in the South Mountain Corridor.
All three are certified in Pet CPR & First Aid. Teri Ann completed the Pet Tech Course for Pet CPR/First Aid/Pet
Care in July of 2011. Teri Ann also holds a Certification as a Wilderness First Responder. She has used her Pet
First Aid training several times on her animal clients, which makes the pet owner feel comfortable knowing that Teri Ann can
handle an emergency situation that may arise. Teri Ann has just completed and is now Certified as an Emergency Animal
Medical Technician I (EAMT I) amd as a Pet Tech Instructor. She will be offering Pet CPR, First Aid & Pet
Care classes starting in January of 2012. For more information on these classes, make sure you click on the Pet CPR,
First Aid and Pet Care tab. Teri Ann has certainly enjoyed all the medical training for animals. Her last training
for 2011 will be in November. She will be taking the Beginning and Advanced Large Animal Rescue, taught by the New River
Fire Department. Teri Ann has previously trained with Mountain Rescue and is excited about moving over to large animal
rescue. Teri Ann is also a hiking guide in her other business, "Hiking AZ with Teri Ann" and has found herself using her wilderness training as well when aiding a hiker who has become distressed.
Teri Ann takes care of all domestic and farm animals, and she has two
dogs of her own. She adopted Willa in January 2009. This was two months after she found herself having to put
her beloved dog, Max, down. Her 2nd dog is Zoe, who originally belonged to her sister, but after Teri Ann moved off
the farm & realized that Willa needed a buddy when she was home alone & she would literally eat Teri Ann's house,
Zoe has become her pal. To round off Teri Ann's animal kingdom is Hazi, a Paint/Arabian Mare. Teri Ann's sister
gave Hazi to her on her birthday a couple of years ago. Hazi was a rescue horse and was originally named Haz Mat because
she can become one crazy mare. Teri Ann shortened it to Hazi. Teri Ann will ride, along with her sister and friends,
in South Mountain. Teri Ann lives off the base of the west side of South Mountain where there is a coyote family that
lives next to her, as well as Javalinas.
Teri
Ann is asked all the time what her favorite dog breed is and her answer is always the same--Pit Bull. She feels that
Pit Bulls are given the bad rap because the only story ever told is the bad ones, such as an owner is busted for a Pit Bull
fighting ring, or a pit bull kills a dog or attacks a human. Pit Bulls are like children in the fact that they act as
they are raised. If a dog owner raises a Pit Bull to attack other dogs than that is what the dog will do. Teri
Ann has a client that has 5 Pit Bulls and they are the sweetest dogs.

Willa
is also part Pit, and loves to wag her tail when they are playing. Teri Ann wants to point out that a sweet lab can
also bite or attack a person/animal as well. Again, it all has to do with the upraising of an animal. Teri Ann also runs Doggie Doo Adventures. This program gets the dog out of the dog house and into nature. Teri Ann picks up a dog, Monday-Friday, and
takes that dog on an adventure. This includes doggie hikes in South Mountain or other trails in Phoenix. An adventure
might include running free at a dog park or a field trip to Cosmo Dog Park, where the dog(s) are free to jump and play in
the lake. An all-day field trip may include a snow day in Flagstaff where the dog steps out of her truck and onto snow
for the first time or heading on the trails in Sedona or Flagstaff. Teri Ann is amazed at the wonder of a dog playing.
She feels that all dogs deserve to be exercised on a daily basis, which keeps them out of trouble (chewing on things
they shouldn't because they are bored). It's like having a child enrolled in an after-school program to keep that child
out of trouble as well.
In July 2011, Teri Ann accepted a Board of Director's position with Mingus Manor Animal Sanctuary (A Safe Haven for Senior & Special Needs Animals) in charge of all volunteers. Comfy Pets of AZ has partnered
with Mingus Manor to assist with fund raisers, volunteering,, etc., and she looks forward to this new position.
Teri Ann treats all her animal clients as family because THEY ARE FAMILY!
